Prima Group Sri Lanka will sponsor the Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship for the 17th consecutive year, continuing its support for junior golf in the country.
The Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2025 will feature young golfers from Sri Lanka and overseas. The tournament, originally scheduled for December 2025, was postponed to March 2026 due to Cyclone Ditwah.
The championship will be held at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club from 6 to 8 March, with a practice round scheduled for 5 March. Tee-off is expected at 7.30 a.m. each day.
The event will be conducted as a three-round gross tournament, with the player recording the lowest aggregate gross score in each division declared the divisional winner.
Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd. General Manager Sajith Gunaratne said the Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship serves as the benchmark for national rankings in Sri Lanka.
He said it had been a privilege for Prima Group Sri Lanka to partner with Sri Lanka Golf for more than a decade.
“We firmly believe that our sponsorship provides a unique opportunity each year to be part of a journey that recognises and empowers young aspiring players, supporting them in developing their potential and striving for excellence in the sport,” Gunaratne said.
The tournament is recognised as a benchmark event for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) in junior golf. It crowns the national junior champion in both Boys’ and Girls’ categories.
Two junior golfers from the Anuradhapura Academy, Adhithya Weerasinghe and Lavidu Premarathna, have gained World Amateur Golf Ranking status during the past year. They join other ranked junior golfers including Jevahn Sathasivam, Reshan Algama and Kaya Daluwatte.
Players including Lavidu Premarathne, Thejas Rathiskanth, Udheera Bandara and Jacob Norton have also shown notable improvement.
This year’s Junior Open winner may emerge from either the Gold or Silver category. The other categories in the tournament are Bronze and Copper.
Among the players expected to compete in their respective categories are Thejas Rathiskanth, Janeesh Weerasinghe, Kaitlyn Norton, Sithara Lorance, Venudi Keerthana, Vihara Herath, Dulkini Kangara, Fathima Zeeniya, Mushfira Muzammil, Yuvan Rathiskanth, Thisura Premarathne, Usara Nugegoda, Abhiman Weerasinghe, Jaedan Sathasivam, Ananya Krishanthan and Hakshhara Pradeep.
