Dhammika Ranatunga, Commissioner General of Agrarian Development, has assured farmers there will be no delays in receiving the fertilizer subsidy for the ‘Maha’ cultivation season.
The subsidy, launched on 31 November, provides each paddy farmer with Rs. 25,000.
It will be disbursed in two phases: Rs. 15,000 after the list of eligible farmers is finalised, and the remaining Rs. 10,000 once cultivation begins.
The programme, covering approximately 800,000 hectares and 1.4 million farmers, has a total government allocation of Rs. 20,000 million.
Already, Rs. 1,976 million has been disbursed to 211,974 farmers.
