The Annual General Meeting of the Antonians Badminton Club (ABC) concluded on 24 June at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, Borella. Presidents of the parent body, the Old Boys’ Association of St. Anthony’s College, Kandy (SACKOBA), Mark Stephen and Rohan Wijesinghe (Colombo branch) along with Vice Patron R.N.A. De Silva graced the occasion.
The future journey of badminton for the college and plans to uplift the game were to be enacted soon as part of the new committee’s way-forward process. Under the project name ‘Golden Shuttle’, the committee is also looking to commemorate 50 years of badminton at St. Anthony’s College, Kandy since its inception back in 1974, by R.N.A. De Silva. These two segments were set to be their focus for the next couple of years. The ABC was originally formed in 1991.
Both the SACKOBA Presidents commented on the importance of the sport and the much-needed efforts to take it beyond where they are today and pledged their support towards the same. R.N.A. De Silva went down memory lane to bring into light the start of the game in college and the progress since then.
The gathering comprised many past players, old boys and well-wishers.
