The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for severe lightning in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts.

The advisory, issued at 2.00 p.m. today (4), will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m.

Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely in some areas, with temporary localised strong winds possible during thunderstorms.

The public has been urged to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by lightning activity.
