Rupee Depreciation can be managed with IMF and ADB Inflows

19 May 2026 | By Staff Writer

The government says the ongoing depreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee can be managed through expected foreign inflows and policy measures.

Minister Vijitha Herath said around $700mn from the IMF and $200mn from the ADB are expected in the near future.

He said import controls and export earnings are also expected to support foreign exchange stability.

The Minister noted that a weaker rupee may increase prices of imported goods and inflationary pressure.
