The 'Battle of the Golds', the annual big match between St. Thomas' College Matale and Government Science College Matale will be played as a limited overs cricket encounter at Bernard Aluvihare Stadium in Matale on Friday (13).

According to the past records, this encounter was first played in 1964 with Science College winning the inaugural match by a narrow margin under the captaincy of Senarath Siyabalangamuwa. 

Since then this battle has resulted in Thomians leading the series by 18 to 1.

St. Thomas' College, under the captaincy of all-rounder Kaveesha Liyanaarachchi, with another promising cricketer Sahas Abrew as deputy, will look forward to their 19th win in the series.

The Science college outfit led by wicket-keeper batter Sachitha Sadew Dewmina and his deputy Ashen Chandula Dharmarathne will go all out to defend the title.
