Rohitha Bogollagama, the High Commissioner-designate of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom, officially assumed duties at the Sri Lanka High Commission in London on 20 November.
Upon his arrival at Heathrow Airport on 19 November, Bogollagama was received by Kathryn Colvin, the Special Representative of the UK Foreign Secretary.
In his address to the High Commission staff, Bogollagama stressed the significance of advancing national interests and urged collaboration to enhance the already friendly relations between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.
Bogollagama brings extensive experience to his new role, having served as a Member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka from 2000 to 2010.
Notably, he held key ministerial positions, including Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2007 to 2010.
Bogollagama’s diplomatic contributions extend to roles such as Chairman of the SAARC Council of Ministers (2008-2009) and participation in organizations like the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group and the Non-Aligned Movement.
