‘Yathiwara Parental Home’ programme to build houses for parents of Buddhist monks

The Cabinet has approved the launch of the Yathiwara Parental Home National Programme to provide housing for economically disadvantaged parents who have dedicated their children to the Buddhist monastic community.


As part of the initiative, 1,000 houses will be built across all districts starting in 2026, under the existing Own Place – Beautiful Life run by the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Water Supply.


Selected beneficiaries will receive financial assistance of Rs. 1.5 million per house, with additional contributions provided at the local level.


The programme was jointly proposed by the Ministers of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and Housing, Construction and Water Supply.
