S. Thomas’ Preparatory School will celebrate the 50th anniversary of rugby at the school with the launch of the Prep Youth Rugby Carnival 2026, scheduled to begin at Longden Place on 6 June.

The tournament details were announced by Tournament Director and Director/CEO of AGOAL Rugby International Dilroy Fernando during a press conference held at the school on Thursday (21).

According to Fernando, 11 schools have confirmed participation for the tournament.

The participating teams are S. Thomas’ Preparatory School, S. Thomas’ College, S. Thomas’ College, S. Thomas’ College, Royal College, St. Peter’s College, St. Joseph’s College, Isipathana College, Nalanda College, Royal College and AGOAL Rugby Academy.

The ‘Prep Youth Rugby Carnival 2026’ is set to feature competitions for the categories of U10, U12, U14 and U16, respectively.

The U-10 category is set to feature Tag Rugby Seven-a-side while the U12 category will be set apart for Tackling Seven-a-side, with the U14 segment featuring Tackling Ten-a-side and the U16 section also set apart for Tackling Ten-a-side.

The trophies on offer will be for U14 and U16 age groups such as Cup champions, Cup runners-up, Plate champions, Plate runners-up and the MVP for U14 and U16 categories.
