Sri Lanka and China have discussed cooperation in public administration reforms, local government capacity building, disaster management, clean drinking water and AI-based early warning systems.

The discussions took place between Chinese Ambassador Wei Huaxiang and Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Prof. Chandana Abayarathna.

China also proposed an AI-powered early warning system for weather-related and geographical disasters, while the two sides discussed a rapid disaster relief mechanism involving technical assistance and emergency relief.

Minister Abayarathna also sought increased Chinese technical assistance and equipment for water purification, as well as more training opportunities in China for Sri Lankan public officials.
