The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has resumed printing driver’s licences after securing a supply of necessary printing cards, a process that recommenced last week.
The card shortage had resulted in a backlog of nearly 350,000 driver’s licences.
The DMT has arranged to print around 6,000 licences daily to clear the accumulated number as quickly as possible.
The Department also plans to issue newly applied-for licences within 14 days by connecting all district offices through an online system.
Printing currently takes place in Werahera, Hambantota, and Anuradhapura, with Kurunegala to follow.
