David Pieris Racing and Leisure Ltd., together with the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC), recently organised the second round of the ACBT Kart Fight Championship 2024. This second round of the four-round kart championship saw intense competition at SpeedBay Bandaragama, Sri Lanka’s only FIA/CIK homologated karting track.
Over 100 skilled drivers took to the track, participating in 12 classes categorised by age and weight. The youngest participant was a nine-year-old girl showcasing her talent in the Cadet class, while the oldest driver, a 65-year-old, fearlessly navigated the track in the Veteran and IAME X30 classes.
The event featured various kart types, ranging from four-stroke racing karts to two-stroke karts capable of speeds exceeding 100 kmph on the main straight. The IAME X30 and Yamaha KT100 classes attracted significant attention, being the highest levels of karting and the aspiration of many drivers.
ACBT Australian College of Business and Technology joined as the Title Partner for the four-round championship, demonstrating its commitment to promoting sportsmanship and talent development among the youth.
Furthermore, the FIA Women in Motorsport initiative was also part of the event, aiming to raise awareness and visibility of female drivers across different classes, including the Ladies Open class.
Rounds 3 and 4 are scheduled to be held at SpeedBay Bandaragama in May and June.
