The 138th birth anniversary of the late linguist, author Kumaratunga Munidasa will be marked with a special event today (25) at 3 p.m. at the Lighthouse Auditorium of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute, Horton Place, Colombo 7.
As part of the ceremony, the 'Kumaratunga Munidasa Sisuwarama' Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to the student who scored the highest marks in Sinhala Language and Literature at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Examination across the island. This year’s recipient is Sandayuru Sanahas Ariyasinghe, a student of Royal College, Colombo.
The event will take place under the patronage of Ven. Thrikunamale Ananda Thera, with the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Nalaka Kaluwewa, attending the event as the chief guest. Writer and environmentalist Sunil Sarath Perera will deliver the keynote lecture titled ‘Kumaratunga the Language Player.’
