Sri Lanka Police have launched an investigation into a cyber-threat and extortion email network operating under the name of the Inspector General of Police.

Police stated that forged signatures and impersonation tactics were used to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the Police.

Authorities urged the public not to respond to suspicious messages, avoid clicking unknown links, and report incidents to the nearest police station or cybercrime units.
