The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has gained control of the Kebithigollewa Pradeshiya Sabha in the Anuradhapura District, following the election of Ranasinghe Wanigasekeralage Dharmadasa as Chairman today (13).
Despite the National People’s Power (NPP) winning the highest number of seats in the recent Local Government (LG) polls, the party failed to secure a majority. The SJB leveraged support from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and an independent group to take control.
The final seat tally saw NPP with 7 seats, SJB with 6, SLPP with 3, and one seat each going to another SLPP candidate and Independent Group No. 1.
