Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila, leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, lodged a complaint this morning (29) with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), alleging misuse of public funds by 159 government Members of Parliament (MPs).
Gammanpila claims the MPs are collectively diverting more than Rs. 30 million from their monthly allowances into a party fund.
He alleged that the fund is being used for political activities, including settling telephone bills, fuel expenses, and office maintenance.
He argued that MPs are not permitted to use their allowances at their own discretion, stressing that such practices amount to a misappropriation of public money.
The former minister has requested CIABOC to launch a full investigation into the matter and to take legal action against those found responsible.
