A circular has been issued to ensure uninterrupted water supplies in areas affected by drought conditions linked to future El Niño events, Environment Minister Dr Dammika Patabendi stated.

The circular, issued by the Ministry of Defence on 6 August introduces amendments to existing laws and regulations to enable faster action to provide water to drought-affected communities.

The measures aim to strengthen Sri Lanka’s preparedness for future El Niño-related water shortages.
