Russian health delegation arrives in SL

  • MoUs, hospital visits lined up

A seven-member delegation led by Russian Federation Health Minister Mikhail Murashko arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (3) on a three-day official visit.

The delegation was received at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake by Science and Technology Minister Prof. Krishantha Abeysena, Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Levan Jagaryan, Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe, and Director (International Health) Dr. Anil Samaranayake.

A brief discussion was held upon arrival.

During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to hold discussions with Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector.


They are also expected to meet Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath. The delegation is due to visit the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, today (4). Plans are also in place to sign Memoranda of Understanding between the Ministries of Health of Sri Lanka and Russia.

Discussions are expected to cover areas such as pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, specialist training, academic exchanges, Ayurvedic medicine, digitalisation, and health tourism. The delegation is scheduled to depart Sri Lanka tomorrow (5).
