U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, has arrived in Sri Lanka as part of an official visit to the region. 

The visit, which runs from today (19) to 24 March, includes high-level meetings aimed at strengthening cooperation in the Indian Ocean area.

During his stay in Sri Lanka, Gor will meet with senior leaders to reaffirm the importance of the U.S.-Sri Lanka relationship and to enhance collaboration across key sectors. 

The discussions are expected to focus on safeguarding vital sea lanes, securing ports, boosting trade and commercial ties, and promoting a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region for the benefit of both nations.

In the Maldives, the envoy will hold talks with senior government officials to reinforce the U.S. commitment to bilateral relations, bolster security cooperation, and explore opportunities to support infrastructure development and economic growth. 

The visit also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the United States and the Maldives.
