- Colombo HC orders to extradite convicts to Iran
Nine Iranian nationals, who had been arrested four years ago for drug peddling, have been sentenced to life on the orders of the Colombo High Court (HC).
The relevant order was given by Colombo HC Judge Amal Ranaraja after the nine accused pleaded guilty to the charge of trafficking heroin into Sri Lanka.
However, acting in compliance with international agreements that Sri Lanka has entered into, it was ordered that the nine foreign nationals be extradited to Iran.
In March 2019, nine Iranian nationals were arrested by the Navy with a large consignment of heroin aboard a trawler in the seas off Akurala.
