  • JVP delegation meets Gujarat CM for tourism/industrial/cooperative sector cooperation

India and Sri Lanka commenced a five-day knowledge exchange workshop on health technology assessment for a delegation from Sri Lanka’s Health Ministry at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday (9). The workshop is being hosted by India’s Health Research Department (DHR). The workshop aims to develop a strategic pathway for advancing and institutionalising health technology assessment in Sri Lanka. An office attached to the DHR, Health Technology Assessment India, plays a pivotal role in evaluating healthcare technologies and ensuring cost-effective, evidence-based health interventions across India. The workshop will cover a wide range of topics, including health technology assessment institutional frameworks, governance, methodologies, pricing, and procurement decisions.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary, Tilvin Silva has held discussions with the Chief Minister (CM) of India’s Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel on Monday, focusing on strengthening India-Sri Lanka relations and exploring avenues for sector-specific cooperation. Highlighting Gujarat’s governance model, Patel had described the State as a policy-driven one. The discussions also touched upon tourism cooperation, including measures to encourage more visitors from Gujarat to travel to Sri Lanka. Silva expressed interest in strengthening industrial cooperation between Gujarat and Sri Lanka and referred to his visit to Amul as an example of a successful cooperative enterprise. Silva said that Sri Lanka is keen to learn from Gujarat’s expertise through “knowledge sharing and know-how” across sectors, including the cooperative sector.
