Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath has dismissed claims of an impending gas shortage, stating that the first shipment from new supplier Geogas Trading SA of Switzerland will arrive in Sri Lanka by 5 January 2026.

Addressing Parliament, he confirmed that the tender to supply gas has been awarded to Geogas, replacing the previous Omani supplier, and all agreements have been signed, ensuring a steady supply.
