Delay in circular on payments: GMOA gives Govt. 2-week ultimatum

  • Says action will be taken after 28 June

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) raised concerns about the delay in issuing the circular with regard to the payments given to doctors for additional duties. It gave the health authorities a two-week ultimatum, adding that the failure to address the issue by 28 June would result in serious action in the following week.

During a press briefing, GMOA Media Spokesperson Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe explained that although the Government promised to keep these rates unchanged, the circular that was issued initially was inaccurate and that it has not been corrected even after months.

“There are preparations to issue the same flawed circular. This is a serious issue,” he said, adding that a simple matter has been turned into a complicated issue. He said that the Government, especially the health authorities, should not allow simple matters to turn into a crisis in the health sector by not addressing them.
