The National People’s Power (NPP) Accountants and Auditors Collective at a recently held press conference emphasised that an auditor attached to the Trincomalee District Secretariat, Yogaraja, has been attacked by a mob. The collective added that such violence and intimidations are continuing on accountants and auditors.
Commenting on the current trends in the Presidential Election 2024, the collective stated that the Election Commission has stopped the actions by the government institutes taken to purchase goods from the State Trading Corporation following their revelation on President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s directive allowing the same. The Commission has advised the Procurement Commission to place a competitive bidding process.
“We thank the Election Commission (EC) and the Procurement Commission for taking immediate action,” the collective stated.
They further alleged that the Housing and Urban Development Ministry is getting ready for actions violating the election law. We filed a complaint with the EC on a recent meeting President Wickremesinghe held with the architects institute in the guise of a discussion in the construction industry organised by Parliamentarian Prasanna Ranatunga.
Continuing their revelations, accountants and auditors of the NPP said that they can publicise the work Samagi Jana Balawegaya leader Sajith Premadasa is conducting, with reference to the Auditor General’s report..
We still do not know how the Volkswagen manufacturing plant in Kuliyapitiya reached a standstill although it was a much discussed business initiative.
At this press briefing, accountants and auditors continued to point out several national level projects in which money embezzlements are suspected.
Former Senior Assistant Auditor Ramya Lalani said: “The 2018/2019 Auditor General’s report revealed many facts on malpractices of Sajith Premadasa, during his tenure as a minister, in relation to certain activities with the Central Cultural Fund. It shows how certain decisions were taken deviating from the proper channel of going through a committee assigned.
Retired Chief Accountant Wasantha Perera and Chartered Accountant Ranjith Dissanayake also participated at the press briefing.
