A five-member team from the 3 Commando Mountain Warfare unit successfully carried out a rescue operation yesterday (19) at World’s End in Horton Plains, following an emergency report around 10:30 a.m.
The incident involved a 23-year-old woman who had fallen while attempting to take selfies and photographs at the scenic location. Upon receiving the alert, the specialised commando team was swiftly deployed to the site to initiate rescue efforts.
The operation posed significant challenges due to the rugged terrain and the woman’s condition, which necessitated careful handling during her extraction. Despite these obstacles, the team used specialized techniques and equipment to ensure her safe rescue.
Once brought to safety, the woman was transferred to medical personnel for further treatment. Authorities praised the quick response and coordinated efforts of the mountain warfare unit, which were instrumental in the operation’s success.
Visitors to Horton Plains are advised to adhere to safety guidelines and exercise caution, especially near dangerous areas such as World’s End, to prevent similar incidents.
