Sri Lanka secured the silver medal in the women’s medley relay event at the Asian Under-18 Athletics Championships, clocking a time of 2:14.25 minutes , a new national youth record on Friday (18).
China claimed the gold medal in the event with a time of 2:11.11 minutes, while Thailand took home the bronze after finishing in 2:15.00 minutes.
The four-day tournament, organised by the Asian Athletics Federation and held in Qatif, concluded, bringing together the continent’s most promising young athletes.
Sri Lanka had a strong showing at this year’s championship, earning a total of eight medals – one gold, three silver, and four bronze – and finishing 9th in the overall medal standings.
Notably, Sri Lanka was one of only 19 countries to win at least one medal, and its tally of eight medals was the highest number won by any participating country at this year’s championship.
This marks a significant improvement from the 2023 edition, where Sri Lanka secured just four medals, two silver and two bronze.
China dominated the medal table with 19 gold, 12 silver, and five bronze medals.
Japan followed in second place with three gold, three silvers, and one bronze, while host nation Saudi Arabia placed third, winning three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
