Dubious Prophets, miracle workers, faith healers, prosperity gospel preachers are exploiting the innocent beleivers, reveals a statement by The National Christian Fellowship in Sri Lanka (NCFSL) today (30).
Releasing a statement to the media, General Secretary to the National Christian Fellowship of Sri Lanka Rev. Rohan De S Ekanayake, stated that the fellowship condemns the doctrine of local Prophet Jerome Fernando.
"We at the National Christian Fellowship of Sri Lanka are shocked and denounce, condemn and do not condone in any way such action and behaviour by these so called Prophets, faith healers and Preachers. We, the NCFSL express our profound sorrow and regret to all those who have bee offended by these so called Prophets and faith healers, particularly those of other faiths and immature Christians," the statement read.
It further urged and called upon other churches at large to unite and work together in unity I'm addressing wrong teachings in the body of Christ in Sri Lanka.
"We believe that only such repentance would bring healing to the body of Christ and the Nation," the statement noted.
The statement then went on to quote scripture related to false prophets and repentance.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will
humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” 2 Chron. 7:14," the statement quoted.
The statement added that prosperity gospel preachers, miracle workers, dubious Prophets have been a recent phenomenon in Sri Lanka and a menace to the true and sincere Christian community at large.
"Speaking of the end of the age He said “For false Christ‟s and false prophets will
arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.” He stated
in His great commission to make disciples and to “teach them to observe all that I have commanded
you”. He also warned when He said “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing
but inwardly are ravenous wolves”, the statement mentioned.
Meanwhile, the National Director for GODTV Sri Lanka, David Nicholle, along with several Christian leaders, have called Prophet Jerome Fernando, or The Lion of Asia as Fernando commonly refers to himself as, for an open debate or discussion on a local TV channel, regarding the recent accusations made by people and his affiliation to Uebert Angel, who was recently exposed by Al Jazeera's Investigative Unit (iUnit) for money laundering and gold smuggling using his diplomatic status in Zimbabwe.
Prophet Jerome Fernando has openly affirmed Uebert Angel as his spiritual father and after the Al Jazeera expose, Fernando has now hit the spotlight for his close affiliation with Angel and the wealth he has a acquired within a short span of time. Reportedly, Fernando purchases designer wear such as Tom Ford and Gucci for himself using funds acquired through his ministry.
