President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced the establishment of 2,300 centers nationwide to gather data for Sri Lanka’s new digital National Identity Card (NIC).
Accordingly, the President highlighted the benefits of the e-NIC, including simplified financial transactions and tax payments. He also revealed India’s commitment to provide Rs. 10 billion in aid for the project.
Addressing concerns on data security, President Dissanayake reaffirmed that data entry will remain under Sri Lanka’s control after initial assistance from India, following consultations with local data science experts.
