One person is dead and three injured after a large tree fell onto a moving three-wheeler in the Talagolla area of Rambukkana last night(23).

The incident occurred around nine twenty p.m. on the Mawanella–Rambukkana road. 

Four passengers, including a two and a half year old girl, were initially trapped.

Local residents and police rescued the victims, who were taken to Mawanella Base Hospital. 

The 37-year-old driver of the three-wheeler succumbed to his injuries. 

The other three occupants, all residents of Lollegoda, are currently receiving treatment. 

The fallen tree also damaged a nearby parked lorry and a shop. 

The road remains blocked and the public should use alternative routes.
