South Korean Ambassador meets Defence Secretary

South Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Miyon Lee, met Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.) at the Ministry of Defence on 1 July to discuss ways to further strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries.


The discussions focused on enhancing long-standing bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of defence, military training, exchange programmes, capacity building, and regional security.


Both sides also explored opportunities to expand training programmes for Sri Lankan armed forces personnel in South Korea, as well as participation in defence exhibitions, international expos, and joint military exercises.


The Defence Secretary expressed appreciation for South Korea's continued support to Sri Lanka, while Ambassador Lee reaffirmed her country's commitment to strengthening defence ties and promoting closer cooperation.


The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Head of Mission of the South Korean Embassy, Eunji Kang.
