The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, announced the launch of a ferry service between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai, expected to start by the end of February 2024.
Jha acknowledged efforts to revive the historic Thalaimannar-Rameswaram ferry link, highlighting the need for infrastructure development to facilitate smooth border crossings.
He stated that the land bridge project between India and Sri Lanka is another example of connectivity initiatives.
He also stated that the ferry service would promote tourism, the hotel industry, and new businesses in the region, as well as support the fishing communities.
