The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) reports that 25 per cent to 30 per cent of Sri Lanka’s electricity supply has been disrupted due to adverse weather, affecting around seven million consumers.
General Manager Shirley Kumara stated that power restoration is difficult, with the Eastern, Central, and Northern provinces most affected.
Critical issues include the collapse of a key 132,000-kilowatt transmission line and the shutdown of the Kotmale and Rantambe hydro power stations due to heavy silt and damage.
Repairs are impossible in flooded areas, and the CEB is prioritising essential services.
