Motorcyclists raise safety concerns over street light cuts

The Ceylon Motorcyclists Association has raised concerns over the government’s decision to switch off street lights from 6.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m., warning it could impact public safety.

In a letter to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, the association highlighted risks of increased road accidents and crime due to poor visibility, particularly affecting motorcyclists and women.

The CMA has proposed using solar-powered lighting as an alternative to maintain safety while addressing energy concerns.
