The Cabinet of Ministers has approved plans to formulate a National Space Policy for Sri Lanka.

Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa noted that space technology has become important for sectors including disaster management, communication, security and environmental monitoring.

The Ministry of Science and Technology will appoint a multidisciplinary technical committee to prepare the policy.

The proposed framework is expected to support international cooperation and align Sri Lanka’s space-related activities with international standards and treaties.
