- Follows request in writing on declared conflict of interest over brother’s bribery case
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has transferred Colombo Chief Magistrate (CM) Thilina Gamage to the Moratuwa District and Magistrate’s Courts.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Colombo Fort Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali has been appointed as the Colombo CM by the JSC.
On Monday (30 December 2024), Gamage had requested the JSC to transfer to another court the hearings of the case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against two individuals including former Western Provincial Councilor Salochana Gamage for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 9 million. Thilina Gamage had reportedly emphasised that his Court is unable to proceed with the hearings of the said bribery case as Salochana Gamage, one of the defendants, is his brother and that such thereby poses a conflict of interest. Accordingly, he had requested the JSC in writing to appoint another suitable Magistrate to proceed with the hearings related to the case.
