British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick and Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe visited apparel facilities near Colombo to review shipments for the UK market.
The visit follows reforms to the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), effective 1 January, allowing Sri Lankan manufacturers to source fabrics globally while retaining duty-free access.
The delegation observed quality assurance processes and low-emission freight operations, supporting UK retailers’ low-carbon supply chain priorities.
The High Commission stated the scheme is expected to boost exports by over 10%, strengthen trade ties, and contribute to job creation and economic growth.
