Sri Lankan Asian Para gold medalist Amila Prashan died under tragic circumstances in the Madurankuliya area, in the Puttalam District last week.
The 34-year old late soldier and a father of two had won gold medals in 100m and 200m events at the 2018 Para Asian Games in Jakarta.
He was a talented sprinter in the National para athletic pool serving at the Boossa Army Camp.
Amila Prashan was also a war hero who sustained severe gunshot injuries at the forward defence line in Puthukkudiruppu during the final stage of the civil war.
But he became a courageous athlete after his injury and had won several medals in local and international competitions.
Meanwhile, a source from the Paralympic Committee said that the deceased had been deeply distressed and traumatised after his second child died last month due to a disability. Amila Prashan’s funeral was held Sunday (19) at Madurankuliya, Kirthisinhagama.
