Govt. approves committee to monitor Easter probe progress

22 Apr 2026 | BY Staff Writer

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the establishment of a dedicated mechanism to oversee the implementation of recommendations related to the Easter Sunday attacks.

While approval was initially granted on 17 May, 2021, to execute recommendations from the Presidential Commission of Inquiry and the Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security, authorities identified a lack of a structured system to effectively track progress.

Recognizing this gap, the Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by the President in his capacity as Minister of Defence to create a formal monitoring body.

This new committee will comprise experts in counter-terrorism and national security, along with representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, ensuring a comprehensive approach.

The monitoring mechanism will operate under the supervision of the Presidential Secretariat, aiming to enhance accountability and ensure the timely and effective implementation of measures to strengthen national security in the wake of past incidents.
