  • No notice received:Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Spokesperson
  • Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Minister Piyankara Jayaratne have been summoned by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption to record statements on 12 May.

The Commission is conducting an investigation into the 2013 Airbus procurement deal involving SriLankan Airlines.

However, Rajapaksa's media spokesperson, attorney Manoj Gamage said the former President had not received any official notice from the CIABOC regarding the Airbus deal.

Issuing a statement yesterday, he said no formal communication had been received by the former President in relation to the ongoing investigation.

It further alleged that although the CIABOC is actively pursuing matters related to the Rajapaksa family, investigations into other serious allegations involving the Government have not been given similar attention.

The statement noted the Commission operates using public funds and should conduct independent and impartial investigations into all major allegations, without prioritising politically motivated cases.

Former Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines Kapila Chandrasena and his wife, Neomali Wijenayake, have been accused of accepting a bribe of US$ 2 million in 2013 in connection with the purchase of six Airbus A330 aircraft and eight Airbus A350 aircraft.

In connection with an investigation under the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023, Chandrasena was arrested by the CIABOC on 12 March. He was subsequently remanded and is currently in custody until tomorrow (5).
