A special commemorative event took place recently at the BMICH in Colombo to celebrate the 96th birthday of prominent author Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Patriotic Bhikku Front Secretary Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera. 

The event was attended by Amarapura Sri Dhammarakshitha Sect Mahanayaka Ven. Thirikunamale Ananda Thera, veteran literary figure Sunil Sarath Perera, Ruhuna University Sinhala Department’s Prof. Jayantha Amarasinghe, former Parliamentarian Gevindu Cumaratunga, former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, and theatre and literary figure Lalitha Sarachchandra. 

Speakers reflected on Dr. Amarasekara’s contributions to literature, the arts, and the intellectual landscape, with several guests addressing the need for a more civilised and culturally rooted society. A book launch was also held as part of the programme.
