Samantha Ranasinghe took oaths as a Member of Parliament for the Kalutara District before Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne. 

He fills the seat left vacant by the late NPP MP Kosala Nuwan Jayaweera, who passed away on 6 April at age 38. 

Ranasinghe, the former Rambukkana Electoral Organizer, was next in line on the National People’s Power (NPP) list.
