Sri Lanka Customs seized a stock of 228 brand-new mobile phones and tablets worth around Rs. 30 million at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today (25).

The electronic items were found abandoned inside two suitcases at the airport’s duty-free shopping complex.

Authorities believe a passenger arriving from Dubai left the suitcases behind upon realizing the difficulty in clearing them through customs.

Customs officers have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the individual.

Further inquiries are being conducted by customs officials at Katunayake.
