Dr. Deepal Perera of Lady Ridgeway Hospital warns of a surge in leptospirosis (rat fever) linked to exposure to contaminated water, especially during school holidays. 

Symptoms include prolonged fever, eye redness, abdominal pain, and dark urine. 

The disease can cause kidney complications if untreated.
