Unbeaten Sri Lanka displayed their prowess in no uncertain terms, as they outclassed Malaysia 72-40 in another Group ‘Encounter, at the ongoing 13th Senior Asian Netball Championship held at Koramangala Indoor Stadium, Bengaluru, India on Wednesday (23).
The win on Wednesday also was Sri Lanka’s fourth triumph in as many games, in the championship and it has markedly enhanced their chances of securing a semi-final spot.
The match had begun with the defending champions gaining control early doors and afterwards they had proceeded to systematically build a lead.
Although Malaysia had strived hard to make a comeback and had shown resilience, the six-time winners had ended the first quarter with a score of 11-8 to their favour.
During the second quarter, the Lankans bidding for three title wins on the bounce had upped the tempo, while restricting the scoring opportunities to their opponents and ultimately finishing the half with a sizeable lead of 40-22.
In the third quarter, the reigning champions drafted in expert goal shooter Thisala Algama, with the intention of pursuing points fast.
This tactic had proved to be effective allowing them to increase their lead to 56-35 by the end of the quarter.
With a 21-point buffer, Sri Lanka had proceeded to maintain their dominance in the final quarter, eventually putting the finishing touches to a convincing 72-40 victory.
Dulangi Wannithilaka’s women are next slated to face Maldives in their final group fixture today (25).
