Sri Lanka could face power shortages as El Niño conditions may increase electricity demand while reducing hydropower generation, PUCSL Chairman K. P. L. Chandralal stated.

He noted that drying water sources could reduce hydroelectricity generation, placing additional pressure on the national power supply.

The warning was issued during a media briefing on electricity purchase prices for renewable energy-based power plants.
