Cheenadi oil brings together rare ingredients sourced from Arabic and Chinese medicinal recipes to provide a rejuvenating product that enhances the efficiency of the human body. Ceylon Ayurveda Firm is now chaired by Ismail Yoosoof, the son of late Dr. O.L.M. Yoosoof, and his family. The Daily Morning Brunch had the opportunity to learn more about cheenadi oil and its benefits from the team behind the product.
The founder
Dr. O.L.M, Yoosoof’s grandfather was the late Kuppa Thamby Hadjiar, who came from a well-renowned upcountry family “Udayar” and held the position of Madiga Muhandiram of Rambukkana. They are believed to be one of the original moor families of Sri Lanka.
Dr. Yoosoof obtained his primary education from a bilingual school of Mawanella and entered the Colombo University’s Institute of Indigenous Medicine. He later joined the institute as a lecturer and was a specialist and consultant in children’s diseases.
He opened his clinic Colombo Central Dispensary and Pharmacy in Dematagoda to start his private practice. He then opened a hospital and nursing home in Maradana, New Central Hospital and Nursing home of Indigenous Medicine.
In 1947, Dr. Yoosoof established the Royal Drug House, which led the way to the Ceylon Ayurveda Firm. “We are an Ayurveda manufacturing corporation and the sole owner and manufacturer of the renowned Sri Lankan Ayurvedic oil brand cheenadi oil. Ceylon Ayurveda Firm is a family-owned establishment run by Dr. O L M Yoosoof’s son and grandson,” the team said.
What is cheenadi oil?
As the sole manufacturer of cheenadi oil, Ceylon Ayurveda Firm has established countless ways to distribute its flagship product on its own web platform, social media platforms, retail stores, boutiques, gymnasiums, and other e-commerce platforms to make the oil more accessible.
