Several expressway projects are expected to commence this year, Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake stated in Parliament today (08).
Construction of the Kurunegala–Galgamuwa section of the Kurunegala–Dambulla Expressway is scheduled to begin in November or December, while work on the Kahathuduwa–Ingiriya Expressway is also expected to commence by the end of the year.
The President has instructed officials to prepare plans for a proposed Katunayake–Chilaw Expressway. A study has also been proposed on an expressway network centred on Anuradhapura.
Meanwhile, construction of the Kadawatha–Mirigama Expressway is scheduled for completion by May 2028, while the Pothuhera–Rambukkana section is planned for completion by April next year.
