The Russian Embassy in Colombo has condemned Ukraine’s new Law On the Fundamentals of State Policy of National Memory, calling it extremist and contrary to international law.
In a statement, it said the law glorifies nationalist leaders such as Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych, while banning Soviet symbols, including the St George ribbon and the phrase “Great Patriotic War.”
Moscow argued the measure violates UN resolutions against Nazism. The embassy also criticised Western efforts to set up compensation and claims mechanisms for Ukraine, calling them “pseudo-legal instruments” aimed at seizing Russian assets.
