Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara has acknowledged responsibility over the Negombo Prison unrest that left 25 inmates dead.

He stated that the incident occurred at a prison under his purview and that he must take responsibility for the situation.

The Minister noted that the situation at Negombo Prison is now under control.

He added that the loss of lives is unacceptable and said measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in future.

He also stated that authorities will visit the site, assess the situation, and ensure such incidents do not recur.
