Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has selected Sri Lanka Under 19 player Geethika De Silva and Yasiru Rodrigo, who has represented both the Sri Lanka Under 19 team and the Development XI, to undergo specialised training at the prestigious MRF Pace Foundation.
According to the SLC, Geethika and Yasiru were chosen following a two-day screening programme conducted at the High-Performance Centre in Colombo. The programme, held in collaboration with the MRF Pace Foundation, evaluated 45 fast bowlers from Sri Lanka’s major clubs.
After careful assessment, selectors had identified De Silva and Rodrigo as potential candidates who would benefit from the three-month intensive training programme, fully sponsored by the MRF Pace Foundation.
This specialised programme focuses on technical refinement, enhancing bowling mechanics for improved efficiency and effectiveness, developing tactical awareness, and understanding match situations and strategies used by batsmen.
The training will also prepare them to handle pressure during games while undergoing a structured fitness enhancement programme designed to improve their athletic performance and endurance.
The screening programme was led by MRF Pace Foundation Chief Coach M. Senthilnathan, along with fast bowling coaches from the SLC High-Performance Centre. Fast bowling coaches Anusha Samaranayake, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Darshana Gamage, and Omesh Wijewardena were among those who assisted the programme.
High-Performance Centre Manager Ruwan Kalpage provided guidance throughout the process, while Sri Lanka Team Head Coach Sanath Jayasuriya was present to observe the programme.
Since 1992, the MRF Pace Foundation has played a crucial role in developing Sri Lanka’s fast bowling talent. This latest initiative further strengthens the long-standing partnership between SLC and the foundation, ensuring continuous progress and support in Sri Lanka’s pace bowling resources.
De Silva and Rodrigo have already joined the training programme.
